What a one-off machined part costs
A one-off part carries the entire fixed cost of the job. The programmer still writes toolpaths, the machinist still sets up tools and fixtures, and the first piece is still checked. On a production order those costs are spread across the lot. On a single part they are not.

A practical point: quoting two or three pieces often costs only slightly more than one, because the fixed cost is already paid. If there is any chance you will need a spare, quote it at the same time.
How Wexmar machines one-off parts
A one-off part goes to the machine that can finish it in the fewest setups. Round parts run on our ten CNC lathes, where live tooling and Y-axis add flats, cross holes, and keyways in one setup. Blocks, brackets, and housings run on our six horizontal machining centers for 3- and 4-axis milling, where a 4th-axis rotary lets several faces be machined without refixturing. Small precision parts up to 32 mm can run on our Maier Swiss machines.
Every one-off quote is reviewed by an estimator. If an ambiguous callout or a tolerance on a non-functional feature is driving the price, the estimator will ask before quoting.

What if you only have the old part?
Replacement parts often arrive as a worn sample with no drawing. A machine shop needs defined dimensions and tolerance intent to make the part correctly. The strongest path is to have the part drawn by your engineering group or an outside drafter before requesting a quote. At minimum, provide a dimensioned sketch that identifies fits, bearing surfaces, thread sizes, and material. Measurements taken from a worn part should be corrected to the original design intent, which only the equipment owner or its engineer can confirm.
Documentation on a single part
A one-off part can ship with material certifications, a CMM inspection report, or AS9102 first article documentation when required. Parts are inspected under an ISO 9001:2015-aligned quality system using Brown and Sharpe CMMs and calibrated gages. Typical part families are shown on our parts page.

- Choose a common material that distributors stock
- Skip non-essential finishes on a first article or test part
